Can we instead of all the sappyness I see on facebook for a secondd talk about the horrific truth that this man was mentally ill and 'we' (society) failed him by not being able to help him and prevent this? everyone acts asif his passing is a natural thing (as far as you can call dying of cancer natural..). But this didn't have to happen...

Nan you bring up great points. But he had access to the best counselors and doctors that money could buy cause he had a lot of it. Yet his illness was so bad that he felt he couldn't go on. How is the everyday person that deals with depression going to survive?

Many diseases are preventable and treatable. Good point, Nan. But it turns out Williams also had Parkinson's as well and that diagnosis (coupled with his recent open-heart surgery) may have sent his depression spiraling down faster than anyone could stop it...
