We've been having fun with the few leaked images we've seen from the set of the Star Trek sequel, but director J.J. Abrams can't seem to get over the fact that we've glimpsed them at all. It started with simple complaining about the leaks, but now it seems Abrams has taken matters into his own hands and built a blockade.
Abrams is big on secrets. He's probably second only to Christopher Nolan in keeping the details of his projects under wraps, so the idea that photo hunters are repeatedly making their way onto his Trek 2 set at Paramount Studios is bound to get him a little hot under the collar. Security was already tight when the first photos leaked, and the initial secrecy measures around his shoot didn't seem to be working, so Abrams got a little more ... flashy with his paparazzi defense strategy.
Apparently he ordered 30 large shipping containers (you know, the kind you see at harbors) to be lined up as a kind of Great Wall of Trek around an outdoor shooting location. No, really. We've even got a picture.
Of course, the paparazzi are only taking this as a greater challenge, so we can probably expect to see more leaks sometime soon. Until Abrams moves his shoot indoors and locks everyone in, it's doubtful he'll be able to keep anything completely under wraps, what with everyone walking around with a camera phone in their pocket and all. Still, his dedication to keeping the spoilers locked up is at least a little admirable.

A bit of secrecy is amazing PR. It was part of what made Doctor Who special when it returned.

I am thinking, mind you, just guessing, that this is a landing party uniform. Similar to that seen in the Cage. That is my best guess.

Seriously? Those skirts are ridiculous. He should be praised for getting rid of them, even if it's just one scene.

I think TOS Trek was trying to illustrate a then-current fashion trend (in this case, 1960s era miniskirts) taken to a then-logical conclusion (VERY mini).
It's seems kind of silly (not to mention unprofessional) today, but then again? I've seen fashion trends come and go over and over again in my lifetime....
As for the need to cover Uhura up?
I disagree; someone as jaw-droppingly cute as Zoe Saldana should never have to cover up....

I repeat: there is NOTHING wrong with this photo....
I'm thinking the gray uniforms are new dress uniforms (like BSG's dress-grays).

I'm one of those weird people who thinks women are more attractive when they dress classy.

"IRON SPOCK."
Well, that's ONE way to do a franchise crossover....
That is one hell of a cross over...I hate to say this but Iron Man 2 might have been better with some sort of star trek them in the plot somewhere. LOL. Don't tell my kid that, he'll freak!

If they were doing a grass roots reboot of Star Trek (with NO continuity to TOS whatsoever)? RDJ would be an intriguing choice (no kidding). I'd be curious to see what an actor of his caliber could bring to the role; seriously. It'd be a wholly new interpretation, of course; but potentially very interesting.....
