Hey guys,

I wanted you to be the first to here about a new site of mine: trekempire.com

I created this site three weeks ago. It is a Star Trek themed site but also has general discussion and some fun sections as well. The site is themed after the Mirror Universe as first seen in original Star Trek episode 'Mirror, Mirror' and later in DS9 and Enterprise. I wanted to create a more adult oriented forum so I discourage anyone under 13 from joining. I always liked the fact that Galacticabbs.com was bit more edgy that some sites and wanted to do something similar with a Star Trek, using the Mirror Universe seemed like a good fit for that type of site and makes it a bit unique in that regard. Check out the forum and let me know what you think. I know we have fans of both Trek and Galactica here, and hope these two sites can be sister sites.

Looks good, I'll sign up later tonight. What's going to be the main difference between TrekEmpire and Trek United (apart from the more adult theme). Are you still running TU? I haven't been over there for a while.

Well, I co-founded Trekunited in 2005 came up with the name and built the forum, I do not own Trekunited.com, Tim uses to own it then sold it to Russ from the IFT last year. These days I still take care fot the site mostly on the technical end, keeping it updated and such. Bill really runs TU on a day to day basis. Trek United is more of a family/PG site and is geared toward fans colaborating on ideas and projects. I wanted to always make an edgy scifi or Star Trek site that would target a more mature audiance. In 2005 I also helped in the creation of 2 other Star Trek sites, Trekpropzone.com and Trekcore.com. Each of those two site do pretty good under there owners because they both specialize in different things, Trekpropezone is all about Star Trek props and is still a busy site. Trekcore is the leader in Star Trek images and screen caps and was sorta an inspiration to make Galacticabbs the leader in all BSG images and screen caps. So while i have not really created another Star Trek fan site in 6 years i thought i would try to take a stab at creating something new and fresh.

Looks great but doesn't this seem like you are pulling away from TU even more? I signed up and look forward to seeing this grow.

Well I figure there is enough Star Trek fans in the world and trekempire.com is a different very themed and toned site than TU. I would never make a clone of Trekunited, just like I would not make a Star Trek site that does screen caps out of respect to my freinds at trekcore.com, or even one that does props or toys. I quite easily could have not used a Star Trek theme for this new site and made it more general scifi focused, i just have seen that general scifi site don't seem to do well.

I am not a mod or part of the staff of Trekbbs. I have been a member there since 2003 and do like to post there though. I know a few of there staff and have bumped into some of them over the years at conventions and such.

No, first it would be a huge undertaking to convert, and also because VB really does not have a gallery application. The Gallery here is one of GBBS's strong points. We are a little behind on an Invision forum update (to 3.2.3) but it requires me to redo the skin again (ugh)so i will do it when i have the time.

Cool. :D But I guess it's always useful to gain experience on different software platforms. :)
