Wow. Thanks Nan! VERY informative. As for the NDE, I myself never experienced one (even though my heart de-fibbed twice en route to the hospital the night of my accident). For me, it was just nothing. Like going under anesthetic. But I've got to remember (for the future) to construct my own 'bewbies' NDE file' someday... :naughty3dg:
:P  :cylon-pancarte03:

Whenever a test person pressed the button this nucleus was stimulated, causing extreme happiness (I still want to get one of those)

Your description of that device reminds me of the 1973 Woody Allen movie "Sleeper" (one of only a handful of really good films he ever made). The hero, a former health food store owner (Allen) wakes up in the future after being in cryo-sleep for hundreds of years. One of his 'discoveries' is a device called the Orgasmatron (see video); kind of similar to what you described in your quote. :P

WARNING: risque subject matter... :D
:D

So the reports of NDE are not that mystical, what IS mystical is that people usually report having the NDE experience during their ‘death’. However, the human mind is very tricky and most scientists believe that these experiences happen before and after cardiac arrest (since during, there is hardly to no brain activity).

And for a person in pre-cardiac arrest would not be the best witness as to exactly when the NDE occurred. It's very possible the NDR did begin BEFORE full cardiac arrest, and since the person's mind is in trauma their sense of time is equally frazzled. Perfectly understandable.

Quote

This happens more to religious people than non religious people, perhaps because both their ‘death folders’ are different.

So, I guess I'm in the genuinely 'non-religious' side of the equation because I don't remember having any kind of NDE at all (and my heart stopped twice). But then again, maybe I just lack imagination.... need to work on my NDE 'bewbies' file, now. ;)

Posted Image OT NDE file completed... :P

OKAY, I'm ready to croak now...... :naughty3dg:

Nan's posts make my brain hurt... but in a good way. The brain is such an amazing thing.

THIS amazed me today; a recent image taken by the Cassini probe orbiting Saturn. It shows how the rings provide illumination the dark side of the planet. There's a small dot above the brighter inner rings to the left; that 'dot' is the Earth. Everything we know, everyone we love, is right there. And it also shows the charged particles trapped in the planet's magnetosphere (think a much larger scale version of our own Aurora Borealis). I just saw this image this morning and so help me, I nearly wept it was so beautiful. It's hard to believe something so beautiful like that can exist naturally.
Sharing it with you good folks here on this site now, enjoy:

I remember seeing Saturn for the first time through a telescope (I was probably about 12 or so) and I remember thinking it didn't look 'real.' The rings looked 'artificial' somehow. It almost looked like an animation cell as seen through an old-style nickelodeon. This image demonstrates that if nothing else? The space program yields some AMAZING eye candy and really sparks imagination. If for no other reasons than that (and just plain old human curiosity) it's all been VERY worth it, IMO...

Oh, and if you're curious there's a connected story from tecca regarding the image, but for me? This is one of those times where the picture says it all.... :cylonclap:

Wasn't that cool, though?
I tell you; I saw that this morning and I honestly was nearly moved to tears. That was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life.
For a brief moment I felt like I was 12 again, in my old backyard with my dad behind me looking through our telescope.... ;)

Glad to be of service...

What amazed me today? The arrogance of my idiot neighbors; and how they think that leaving their idiot dog out barking at 6 am on a Saturday morning is in any way, shape, or form cool.... :ranting:

These are the days I really HATE the suburbs.... :cylonnono:

The colors show diffusion directions in the brain. They use this relatively new diffusion technique to show white matter connective tissue. And the colors show which way they difuse along the axis :)
