It may be just a rumor, or it could be true; here's the link to the original story at Airlock Alpha HERE.

My thoughts on this (for whatever it's worth)? I think one more year might be enough. They're a newlywed couple (Amy and Rory); let them 'domesticate' for awhile.
The Tardis will sail on, I'm sure....



Although I will very much MISS Amy; one of the best companions EVER. The perfect mix of Rose and Donna Noble; Rose's sweetness with Donna's 'don't f**k with me' attitude. And did I mention she is possible the sexiest companion ever as well?? Holy cow... when I first saw her in the police uniform? I SO wanted to get arrested (and I probably could've been; for what I was thinking at that moment... ). And Rory; I thought (and feared) he was going to be "Mickey the Idiot, version 2.0", but luckily he wasn't. He really grew on me as well. And I loved their jaw-dropping connection with River...

It might be interesting to see the Doctor companionless for awhile (but not too long). It worked out OK for Tennant in his last year (when he did the Who specials).

I'm not really fussed with the married couple being with the Dr. I know the Dr has had more than one companion in the past but I'm not bothered on Rory. His character has never rally had much impact on me. Karen Gillan on the other hand....needs to stay

Rory has come a long way from his almost Mickey days, but yeah; I could lose him too.

Frankly? I'd rather see Matt Smith's Doctor go than Karen Gillan. She is easily one of the BEST companions ever. Needs a slightly better Doctor though, IMO.
Would it break 'Timelord law' for him to change back into Christopher Eccleston somehow?**

** I know my wife would be happy; I think she has a bit of a crush on Doctor # 9....

Indeed of the recent doctors Eccleston was by far the best.

C.E. jump-started the series back to life. Made the Doctor dangerous, too.
Tom Baker's still my all-time favorite though (from both the old and new series); he WAS the Doctor (just as madcap in real life as we was onscreen).

My only wish for Rory is that he'd been a stronger character right out of the box. Instead, he was made kind of 'buffoonish' at first (as most men are on TV these days), and it took him a LOOONG time to build up credibility (both as Amy's lover and as a character). He did have a few episodes where he really shined, but I think at that point the damage had been done...

Well, the last episode of DW seems to have made this thread's prophesy come true...
I know they'll be back by the series' finale, or at least they should be, judging by it's title (it's titled "The Wedding of River Song"; she's their daughter... it'd kind of suck if they miss her wedding) but the last episode aired ("The God Complex") IMO could've easily functioned as their swan song (although it did seem way too easy!). It also reminded me very much of how Ian and Barbara went home with the first Doctor so MANY years ago... minus the goofy "swingin' London" still photo/music montage!



If they DO go home, they'll have to be back for the resolution of the Impossible Astronaut arc anyway (unless they don't for some reason.... hmmm). At this point? I've honestly given up trying to guess Moffat's next moves. Sometimes he's brilliant, sometimes it seems he takes the show too deep into "Harry Potterville", but at any rate? He's (more or less) unpredictable. And to be surprised with all of the DW under my belt? I'm OK with that...

But as much as I like Amy and Rory, I think it's almost time for them to depart the Tardis anyway.... it'd be cool to see him break in a new companion now.
DW is a show that thrives on change and evolution....

I thought they may have been setting up the medical girl in the last episode as a new companion but the she died sham, maybe she was to Martha Jones.

They did the same with Lynda and the Ninth.. which was cleverly done as they'd leaked that Eccelstone would stay, Piper would go and really confused the audience.

I do wonder if they'll have another crossover companion, someone who's recruited before the others are discarded. If I remember rightly, there were a few - such as Ace, who joined in when Mel was around. I think.

I might have to kick start my brain...

And Ace was SOOO much better than Mel (IMHO). It was a trade up.

As for the next companion?
Please.... just let it NOT be the flatmate guy. He was funny in a one-off, but that was enough. Like Baltar, I'm OK with the character but hated the actor.
But I'm thinking that next week's preview is a classic red-herring....

But I do think that, other than cameos, this will probably be Amy and Rory's last year (it smells like contract renewal time ....). Karen Gillan has 'breakout star' written all over her forehead. I think she'll fare even better than Billie Piper (who had "Confessions of a Call Girl" and some miniseries lined up afterward). As for Rory? A shame. He was really starting to come into his own this year....
