Hugh Laurie is utterly amazing; like both the show and his character (even though in the real world, House would be sued off his a$$).
He's the medical Sherlock Holmes (and me being such a Holmes freak, it's right up my alley). His best friend Wilson (nee; Watson), his addiction to vicodine (versus Holmes seven percent solution of cocaine), his vast intellect, his emotional detachment, etc. Even House's address #; 221B, as in 221B Baker St., London. The address of Sherlock Holmes.
In fact, the creators of the show say that even the name "House" is a nod to "Holmes."
And Jamie Bamber is pretty cool, too; too bad when I'd met him at a con, he was exhausted from having spent the whole rest of the weekend moving.
And yes, his native accent is jarring when you get used to his American one (although I heard his pop was from Detroit, Michigan; that helps!).
