'Battlestar Galactica' multi-player online game coming

Based on the ended science-fiction show, it is being introduced at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week and is expected to premiere in the fall.

March 09, 2010

By Ben Fritz

"Battlestar Galactica" is finding new life on the Web.

A year after the cult and critics' favorite science-fiction show left the air, a multi-player online game is being developed that further explores the "Battlestar" universe, which is also continuing in Syfy's "Caprica" television show. The game, which will be introduced at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week, is set to be released worldwide in August or September.

THIS sounds INTERSTING!

Wish they would come up with something for BSG as detailed and interactive as STAR TREK ONLINE.

Would be WAY COOL! :adama-pancarte001:

I see now they are going into CLOSED BETA testing and you can sign up to be one of the testers.

Good to see this progressing. My Brother is a BIG TIME STOL fan and he constantly raves on it. I hope BSGOL comes up to the same standard.

This is ramping up, I know of another Cylon that is in the Beta testing group. I hope it rocks. But I hear it is to be a browser based game. ???

It's in open beta now. Surprised that there aren't more responses on this thread.

Oddly enough I seem to be having zero problems with this game and it is awesome! I find it amusing that it runs best on Chrome :P. Haven't been able to play for a few days though....too busy :(

Any more playing this now?

I just got started and am playing around with it but I have to say I have already found one thing I don't like. It is typical "X-Box" format in that you can't fly the craft like a sim from the pilots seat - You have to fly around looking over your own shoulder. This "Gammieness" just puts me off and pretty much kills it for me.

I will hang with it for awhile longer - maybe it will impress me elsewhere.

So... the buzz of BSG / Caprica / and for now Blood and Chrome have passsed... and now WOW games.
I guess that BSG and "games" will just never see eye-to-eye. :(

I think BSG games miss the point of the show; the show is not really about the space battles (even though they are spectacular). It's the people.
A prime example IMO is "Flight of the Phoenix" in which a space battle was shown entirely through a video taken by D'anna Biers in the CIC. And even without high-flying FX, it was no less compelling than if we'd seen it actually happening. The worry on Dee's face, the elation when it was over, etc.
THAT'S why I watched (and still watch) the show.... because I love the characters.
The space battle FX are just the spices and seasoning.

I, for one, can't make a whole meal out of just seasoning....

· San Francisco – April 30, 2012 – Bigpoint (www.bigpoint.com) – a worldwide leader in online games – today announced that Battlestar Galactica Online (http://battlestar-ga...a.bigpoint.com/) has nearly achieved ten million registered players worldwide since the game’s launch one year ago. Based on the internationally popular Syfy television series produced by Universal Cable Productions, Battlestar Galactica Online (BSGO) is a free-to-play, browser-based space combat MMO that combines high-quality graphics with intense gameplay. To celebrate its birthday, Bigpoint is hosting a week-long party for all players. Running April 30 through May 6, Humans and Cylons who log-in will receive in-game gifts and bonuses. Battlestar Galactica Online is licensed through Universal Partnerships & Licensing on behalf of NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products Group.

· “We are thrilled with the tremendous growth of BSGO and how the game has performed over the past year,” said Heiko Hubertz, Founder and CEO, Bigpoint. “BSGO is a breakthrough title that has empowered us to change perceptions of the kind of gaming experience that can be delivered through a web browser. We’re excited to move forward with this momentum, celebrate our achievements, and reward all of our players in the community who helped us get to this point.”

· Since its launch, BSGO has benefitted from numerous content updates, including the introduction of new classes of ships (Escort, Line, Carrier), the ability to pilot Battlestar and Basestar capital ships, the integration of the Triad and Prophecy meta-game, custom ship paints, and an eight-foot tall Cylon giveaway contest. Within the past year, the game has enlisted close to 10 million registered players, and has received industry accolades such as the Unity Developers Award for Community Choice, and Best Browser Game at the European Games Awards.
