The Rising Star is a luxury liner operated by Trans Stellar Spacelines. It is capable of both atmospheric and space flight, as well as planetary landing and unaided launch, but it is not FTL capable. She is roughly 300 meters in length, weighs 800,000 tons, is powered by standard Fusion Reactors and maintains a standard crew of 120 with a 500 person passenger capacity.

Rising Star has at least seven decks, including an "elite" level and storage facilities inaccessible by passengers. These levels include a casino, guest rooms, dining level and recreation level where visitors can watch Triad competitions (a form of Colonial basketball). She also contains various entertainment areas, such as open stages where dances, revues and shows are performed. The Rising Star is not armed and maintains 12 civilian shuttles.

The Rising star is a popular place for Colonial Warriors and civilians to relax, and suites are available for overnight as well as extended stays.

I don't know if she appeared in the main series or not, but she does in "Razor".

In the novel Battlestar Galactica, the Rising Star is armed. Page 232; "However, they did not count on the artillery on the Galactica and the luxury liner Rising Star." copy right 1978 by MCA Publishing, a Division of MCA Inc.

It is logical to assume several things here. The first being that any manned ships of the Twelve Colonies of Man would be targets. Therefore the greater the number of crew/passengers, the greater the interest of the Cyclons. The second being that the war had gone on for over a thousand Yarhen, and therefore, the correct amount of weapons would be in place. A liner would be, in other words a very good target to hit for the Cylons.

I alwayas liked the Rising Star. and it was the backdrop for several eps. including of course BSGs court ep "Murder on the Rising Star"
