I know Trekunited has this thread but I liked the idea so much I would like to see this take off over here as well.

We are people of so many different tastes, backgrounds, nationalities, and differences that I would like to experience some of what you all like and maybe others would be interested in what you have to offer as well.

That point to this is simple.
#1 Post lyrics from one of your favorite songs.
#2 Post a link to the video if it is available.
#3 Tell us why you like it if you want to.

I will start this off with a song from a bad called Iron Maiden and the song is "Stranger in a Strange Land". I really like the guitars in the song and it was one of the first songs I was able to play pretty well with the guitar. Iron Maiden is one of my favorite groups from back in the day. They have much more talent then most of todays groups imo. Hope you enjoy it.

Video for Iron Maiden Stranger in a Strange Land

Was many years ago that I left home and came this way,
I was a young man full of hopes and dreams,
But now it seems to me that all is lost and nothing gained,
Sometimes things ain't what they seem,
No brave new world, no brave new world,
No brave new world, no brave new world.

Night and day I scan horizon, sea and sky,
My spirit wanders endlessly,
Until the day will dawn and friends from home discover why,
Hear me calling, rescue me,
Set me free, set me free,
Lost in this place and leave no trace.

Chorus:
Stranger in a strange land,
Land of ice and snow,
Trapped here in this prison, yeah!
Lost and far from home.

One hundred years have gone and men again they came that way,
To find the answer to the mystery,
They found his body lying where it fell on that day,
Preserved in time for all to see,
No brave new world, no brave new world,
Lost in this place, and leave no trace.

Chorus:
Stranger in a strange land,
Land of ice and snow,
Trapped here in this prison, yeah!
Lost and far from home.

Chris Cornell - You Know My Name (James Bond Casino Royale Theme)

If you take a life do you know what you'll give?
Odds are, you won't like what it is
When the storm arrives, would you be seen with me?
By the merciless eyes I've deceived

I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
Just next in line

Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?

The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name

If you come inside things will not be the same
When you return to the night
And if you think you've won
You never saw me change
The game that we all have been playing

I've seen this diamond cut through harder men
Than you yourself
But if you must pretend
You may meet your end

Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you ready to die?

The coldest blood runs through my veins

Try to hide your hand
Forget how to feel
Forget how to feel

Life is gone with just a spin of the wheel
Spin of the wheel

Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die?

The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name
You know my name

The video is an excellent fan-made Torchwood - Chris Cornell crossover. The audio-video sync is perfect. Way to go Daxy!

My song is one of my all-time favorites... God Of Thunder by KISS. I've been a KISS fan since I was 5. The makeup, costumes, and stage shows have always blown me away! This video is from their Farewell Tour, June 27, 2000 at the Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey. I had floor seats for this show, 38th row back from the stage!

Live Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY-yr6qYU7U

Lyrics:

You've got something about you
You've got something I need
Daughter of Aphrodite
Hear my words and take heed

I was born on Olympus
To my father a son
I was raised by the demons
Trained to reign as the one

Chorus:
God of thunder and rock and roll
The spell you're under
Will slowly rob you of your virgin soul

I'm the lord of the wastelands
A modern day man of steel
I gather darkness to please me
And I command you to kneel
Before the

Chorus:
God of thunder and rock and roll
The spell you're under
Will slowly rob you of your virgin soul

Spoken:
I am the lord of the wastelands
A modern day man of steel
I gather darkness to please me
And I command thee to kneel
Before the

Chorus:
God of thunder and rock and roll
The spell you're under
Will slowly rob you of your virgin soul

Bob Seger's Song "Turn the Page"

Just a great over all rock song. Mellow but powerful.
Bob Seger's Turn the Page

On a long and lonesome highway east of Omaha
you can listen to the engine rolling out his one note song
you can think about the woman
or the girl you knew the night before

but your thoughts will soon be wanderin' the way they always do
when your riding sixteen hours and there's nothin much to do
and you don't feel much like riding
you just wish the trip was through

say here I am on the road again
there I am up on the stage
here I go playin' the star again
there I go
Turn the page

well you walk into a restaurant strung out from the road
and you feel the eyes upon you as you're shakin' off the cold
you pretend it doesn't bother you
but you just want to explode

most times you can't hear 'em talk other times you can
all the same ol' cliches, is that a woman or a man
and you always seem outnumbered
you don't dare make a stand

Here I am on the road again
there I am up on the stage
here I go playin' the star again
there I go
turn the page

Out there in the spotlight your a million miles away
every ounce of energy you try to give away
as the sweat pours out your body
like the music that you play

Later in the evening as you lie awake in bed
with the echoes from the amplifiers ringin' in your head
you smoke the day's last cigarette
remembering what she said

Ah here I am on the road again
there I am up on the stage
here I go playin' the star again
there I go
turn the page

Ah here I am on the road again
there I am up on the stage
here I go playin the star again
there I go there I go

Cool topic, and the rules are also nice.

Zipper, you probably heard "The Rime of The Ancient Mariner" by Iron Maiden. I don't know whether you knew this or not, but the song is a perfect summary of a poem by Samuel Taylor Coleridge of the same title. We've dealt with the poem on a seminar class, and we also listened to the song. We xeroxed the lyrics to have the concise summary of the story. smile.gif

Mine for today is "Sweet Sacrifice" by Evanescence. Those riffs in the song are just awesome, although I find the song a bit too dark/gothic.

---

It's true, we're all a little insane
But its so clear
Now that I'm unchained

Fear is only in our minds
Taking over all the time
Fear is only in our minds but its taking over all the time

You poor sweet innocent thing
Dry your eyes and testify
You know you live to break me- don't deny
Sweet sacrifice

One day I'm gonna forget your name
And one sweet day, you're gonna drown in my lost pain

Fear is only in our minds
Taking over all the time
Fear is only in our minds but its taking over all the time

You poor sweet innocent thing
Dry your eyes and testify
And oh you love to hate me don't you, honey?
I'm your sacrifice.

[I dream in darkness
I sleep to die
Erase the silence
Erase my life
Our burning ashes
Blacken the day
A world of nothingness
Blow me away]

Do you wonder why you hate?
Are you still too weak to survive your mistakes?

You poor sweet innocent thing
Dry your eyes and testify
You know you live to break me- don't deny
Sweet sacrifice

Is this acceptable?

1. No lyrics. It's all orchestral
2. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaCTSuJsfh0...ted&search=
3. I LOVE the movie and the music gets me going.

I did a presentation on that topic in my English class when we studied that poem. My English teacher was SO shocked that a Metal band would do something like that.

That is going to be my song of the day.

IRON MAIDEN RIME OF THE ANCIENT MARINER LYRICS
This is a LONG song
Iron Maiden Rime of the Ancient Mariner Part #1
Iron Maiden Rime of the Ancient Mariner Part #2

Hear the rime of the ancient mariner
See his eye as he stops one of three
Mesmerises one of the wedding guests
Stay here and listen to the nightmares of the sea.

And the music plays on, as the bride passes by
Caught by his spell and the mariner tells his tale.

Driven south to the land of the snow and ice
To a place where nobody's been
Through the snow fog flies on the albatross
Hailed in God's name, hoping good luck it brings.

And the ship sails on, back to the North
Through the fog and ice and the albatross follows on.

The mariner kills the bird of good omen
His shipmates cry against what he's done
But when the fog clears, they justify him
And make themselves a part of the crime.

Sailing on and on and north across the sea
Sailing on and on and north 'til all is calm.

The albatross begins with its vengeance
A terrible curse a thirst has begun
His shipmates blame bad luck on the mariner
About his neck, the dead bird is hung.

And the curse goes on and on at sea
And the thirst goes on and on for them and me.

[Narrative];
Day after day, day after day,
we stuck nor breath nor motion
as idle as a painted ship upon a painted ocean
Water, water everywhere and
all the boards did shrink
Water, water everywhere nor any drop to drink.
[/Narrative];

There calls the mariner
There comes a ship over the line
But how can she sail with no wind in her sails and no tide.

See...onward she comes
Onward she nears out of the sun
See, she has no crew
She has no life, wait but there's two.

Death and she Life in Death,
They throw their dice for the crew
She wins the mariner and he belongs to her now.
Then...crew one by one
they drop down dead, two hundred men
She...she, Life in Death.
She lets him live, her chosen one.

[Narrative];
One after one by the star dogged moon,
too quick for groan or sigh
each turned his face with a ghastly pang
and cursed me with his eye
four times fifty living men
(and I heard nor sigh nor groan)
with heavy thump, a lifeless lump,
they dropped down one by one.
[/Narrative];;

The curse it lives on in their eyes
The mariner he wished he'd die
Along with the sea creatures
But they lived on, so did he.

And by the light of the moon
He prays for their beauty not doom
With heart he blesses them
God's creatures all of them too.

Then the spell starts to break
The albatross falls from his neck
Sinks down like lead into the sea
Then down in falls comes the rain.

Hear the groans of the long dead seamen
See them stir and they start to rise
Bodies lifted by good spirits
None of them speak and they're lifelesss in their eyes

And revenge is still sought, penance starts again
Cast into a trance and the nightmare carries on.

Now the curse is finally lifted
And the mariner sights his home
spirits go from the long dead bodies
Form their own light and the mariner's left alone.

And then a boat came sailing towards him
It was a joy he could not believe
The pilot's boat, his son and the hermit,
Penance of life will fall onto him.

And the ship it sinks like lead into the sea
And the hermit shrieves the mariner of his sins.

The mariner's bound to tell of his story
To tell this tale wherever he goes
To teach God's word by his own example
That we must love all things that God made.

And the wedding guest's a sad and wiser man
And the tale goes on and on and on.

Indeed, a very-well made piece. smile.gif

Today's favourite does not have any lyrics. It is the Colonial Anthem by Bear McCreary.

This is an instrumental by Rush YYZ. NO ONE can do a better drum solo. I have seen this done live and the video cannot do it justice.

My Song of the Day also happens to describe my opinion of the writing for "Crossroads - Part 2"... and that is Accept's Balls To The Wall from 1983!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqPZboA9s3w

BALLS TO THE WALL

Too many slaves in this world
Die by torture and pain
Too many people do not see
They're killing themselves - going insane

Too many people do not know
Bondage is over the human race
They believe slaves always lose
And this fear keeps them down

Watch the damned (God bless ya)
They're gonna break their chains (Hey)
No, you can't stop them (God bless ya)
They're coming to get you
And then you'll get your

Balls to the wall, man
Balls to the wall
You'll get your balls to the wall, man
Balls to the wall - balls to the wall

You may screw their brains
You may sacrifice them, too
You may mortify their flesh
You may rape them all

One day the tortured stand up
And revolt against the evil
They make you drink your blood
And tear yourself to pieces

Chorus
