I am very glad they didn't go for any kind of repetition of BSG (either in theme or credits' style). But I am a little dismayed they didn't use the 'gathering storm' music they had in the pilot. That was a LOT more distinctive, IMO. Just a personal preference.

I just hate those cheesy, badly green-screened visuals. They should've shown clips in a nice montage (ala BSG) or simple text over a nondescript background.
The visuals look too gothic for this show. I expect to see Batman overlooking Caprica City at the end...

It is better than most shows now-a-days... they just have the logo and a "la la" sound or something. The art of the theme song is fading.

Sadly, with most hourlong shows only clocking in at 40 minutes and change minus commercials (as opposed to the heyday of the late '60s when shows usually clocked in around 52 or so), running time is precious.

But the are not as good as "older" shows that had themes.... Golden Girls was a laugh every other line. Shows today just "eh" and they have more time without the theme!??!

I agree.
Give me a good '70s sitcom ("MASH", or "All in the Family") any ol' day of the week. More laughs in 25 minutes (and back then they averaged about that long) than most modern sitcoms give in their running times (usually barely clocking in at 20 or 21, tops). Or how about the memorable ditty to "Cheers?" I think "Big Bang Theory" might have one of the last of the good ones (my wife sings along to it EVERY time).

I think (back then) it was more about giving the viewer a rounded entertainment 'package' (theme music, credits, etc). It's a holdover from the golden age of movies when long films had intermissions (I loved those; I'd been to a couple of movies in revival houses that had those), where they'd stop the movie around the halfway mark, and have music playing for a good 10-15 minute stretch to give the audience time to go to the restroom, refill on popcorn, whatever. Some movies even had 'seating' music that would play over a stationary title card while the audience found their seating. Some deluxe dvds still have these (my "2001" "Seven Brides..." and "Doctor Zhivago" dvds, at least). But these days? They shove advertisements into that time. It's get all about getting to that ever-important bottom line; to hell with all the pleasantries and niceties that used to round out the experience of movies (or watching TV, for that matter).

I did too. It told the story in a jiffy and got you interested in seeing what they all were about (i.e. watch the show).
