Looks like they are from Graystone's company - have the Pentagon logo on them.

Isn't that OUR logo? :cylonanime01: :P

Interesting....

Clearly they are NOT spacecraft. I guess the Mark IIs were the first space/atmo dual capacity birds. :nBSGsalute:

It is not a pentagon. But a dodecahedron.

Twelve colonies remember?

Uh, five sides is a pentagon, last time I checked.

OT is right, it is a pentagon - it is 2-D on the side of the Viper, not 3-D. It is a knod to classic BSG where the Cylon logo is the double pentagon, and a forerunner to nuBSG's use of the same pentagon.

A dodecahedron is putting a pentagon into 3-D space with 12 pentagon sides... the 2-D image in nuBSG, Razor and Caprica are all echoes back to the classic Cylon logo. None of them represent the 12 colonies - just the Cylons. The pentagon in nuBSG it is a mutation of the Graystone industries logo (used in the company's tower too - the roof is a pentagon). The fact a pentagon creates a 12 sided 3-D object is pretty cool coincidence.

Look at it again.

It is a 2-D representation of a twelve sided object, other wise known asa dodecahedron.

Then think Carl Sagen's Cosmos.

The Cylon symbol fro TOS is two pentagons one within the other, this new symbol is quite different. The corners conect, in such a way as to from what I said.

I looked at it and it is a nod to the classic Cylon logo.

This new logo is quite different than classic Cylon double pentagons, yes. It is the forerunner of what will eventually become the nuBSG Cylon logo adorning the new Raiders and Resurrection ships, and hardware holding the “classic” Centurions together as seen in Razor. It is 2-D with lines on the corners, not a suggestion of 3-D object. It most likely has the lines on the corner do to a “paint mask” – how the logo was spray painted on the aircraft. If we want to say it is a 3-D wanna be, then every circle drawn is actually a sphere. Different terms for different items.

There is no basis for dodecahedrons in Cylon or Colonial images - old school or new. The 12 colonies pull from a twist on the Zodiac for their “12-ness.” I know very little about Carl Sagen's Cosmos… except that it wasn’t an influence for TOS BSG – which nuBSG and Caprica are based on.

Much like Classic Cylons "took" the name Cylon from their reptilian creators after killing them off… Zoe-A must, in time, adopt the logo of her father's/creator's company Graystone Industries in the same honoring/insulting fashion. Everything old is new again... there is nothing new under the sun... all those old says are old for a reason! OH and... "The circle is now complete..." To quote a certain Sith Lord.

Killer looking fighter design - looks like a cross between the P-40 WARHAWK, F/A-18 HORNET & F-4 PHANTOM II.

About the Pentagon Insignia on the Fighter - I am going to have to come down on the side of OT & CK. It also looks to me like it is a 2D variation of the "Double Pentagon" insignia we usually associate with the Classic era Cylon Fighters.

I think CK's version of it is about the closest to the truth most likely, like the Pentagon shaped bolts on the Razor Cylon Centurions and the roof on the Greystone building - it is just a nod/insult at the old series or perhaps some kind of "Symbolism" of the 12 Colonies that have yet to be revealed to us.

My $.02 for what it's worth.

The Cylon/Caprican Viper insignia is NOT a dodecahedron. Yes, I saw COSMOS (and have been a member of the late Carl Sagan's Planetary Society for 15 years); one has NOTHING to do with the other. Watch TOS BSG; it's a visual nod to the old Cylon emblem. End of story.

THIS is a dodecahedron:

THIS is the old Cylon symbol:

Now, do you see how the shape is merely a pentagon within a pentagon and NOT a dodecahedron? :cylonnono: Thank you; Class dismissed! :P

The vipers have gray symbols (ALL OVER the markings are gray, even the writing) just paint color on a plane could explain that - that may be the deal... but I wonder how they will evolve the green into the Cylon logo in Caprica?

That's really it Cylon evolution - Zoe-A, Tamera, the logo, the U-87, the Vipers, the Colonial Fleet... heck even in the opening voice over for nuBSG - the Cylons "evolved." It will be interesting to see the spin they put on all of it in Caprica - since we know the outcome.

It is like watching the missing link occur... YOU DAMN DIRTY APES! :) :P Ape shall not kill ape! (Right OT)

"Yes... the Lawgiver CK raises some intriguing possibilities; very interesting ..... hmm.... bananas, anyone?"

I read an interview once (or maybe it was a video interview; at my age, one forgets these things), where Gary Hutzel (one of BSG's and Caprica's FX artists) said that he (and some on his staff) are BIG time TOS BSG fans and they try to 'sneak in' TOS visual references whenever they can. For example, TOS landrams on the Pegasus hanger deck; the ships in the rag-tag fleet being photo-copies of ones from the original, etc. I think the idea of using the old Cylon pentagon symbol as a Colonial Ministry of Defense marking is brilliant; and reminiscent of the United States' pentagon building in Washington, D.C.

So, the double pentagon works on two fronts; as a TOS reference, and as a nod to the ol' US of A!

Razor Cylons even had the "salt-and-pepper" holes over the brows... total nod to TOS Cylons. They were "looking holes" for the actors in the Cylon costumes to SEE! Recreated with love by the same Vis-effects team giving a shout out to TOS BSG ... yet easy to "write off" as cooling vents/holes, etc. for the nuBSG "classic" Centurions.

Even the 'mining ship' from "Scar" was also the mineral ship (same difference) from TOS; and there were little landrams on the surface of the asteroid, too! :cylonclap:

I LOVE when they put little nods to TOS in here and there; even the Colonial 'anthem' (played several times over the series, even whistled by a janitor in "Final Cut"), and the objects in the starboard hanger deck museum; watch the mini series again; there are photos of TOS vipers, the TOS president Adar (the late Lew Ayres) and even a picture of Carillon scattered about.

Look VERY carefully at the images on the gallery wall (it's like a game of TOS "Where's Waldo?"). Not to mention the big, fat TOS Cylon base star right in the center of the image as well! :cylonclap:

Since the Colonies are all separate at this point in the show and do their own things... do you think there are "Other Vipers?" The one we saw above was the Caprican Viper... could the be (maybe) 11 others?

Possibly, but since the colonies unified during the Cylon war (1), I assume (for convenience sake) critical military technology was shared across the colonies.
The only differences were most likely cosmetic ones, like insignias, helmets, etc.

Just my two cents... :cylonanime01:

I think they would have some others ... they had several bids out for the U-87 contract... maybe the Millennium Viper from TOS BSG could have been worked in as another Colonies’’ Viper bid?

Pre CW1? Maybe, but post war? I doubt they'd trouble themselves with competing contracts in a time of full-on war.
