Even though the pilot episode had a premiere of sorts last summer when the uncut version was released on DVD, Syfy has with great fanfare, rolled out the long awaited prequel to its hit series, Battlestar Galactica. The show, Caprica, is set on the planet that it is named for and is set 58 years before the events in the miniseries that launched Galactica.
The new series is focused on two families on Caprica instead of a fleet of people. One family is the Graystones. Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz) is the founder and head of Graystone Industries, which is one of the leading robotic firms on Caprica. The other family is the Adama’s, which is led by Joseph Adama (Esai Morales) who is the father of Galactica’s Admiral William Adama. At the beginning of the pilot, a monorail train carrying Graystone’s daughter, Zoe, and Adama’s wife, and daughter, is blown up by a terrorist group called Soldiers of the One. As we all remember from Battlestar Galactica, the belief system of the Twelve Colonies is a polytheistic society, believing in a multitude of gods. The Soldiers of the One, much as the group led by Baltar, believes in a one, true god.
