I was just thinking of this episode not too long ago (which I liked by the way; Fred Astaire was a terrific coup as a guest star).
I still think they could've remade this one for NuBSG with Dirk Benedict as new Starbuck's dad, but alas.... my point:

The idea of the overly complicated genetic scan/paternity test that Chameleon (sp?) and Starbuck went through to determine if Chameleon was indeed Starbuck's pop.
The first test was a precursor test that determined they were both from the same planet, tribe and were at least related within 10 generations.

And a 2nd test was ultimately needed to determine final paternity.

If I'm not TOO mistaken, I believe DNA testing (esp. for issues of paternity) came into being around the time this episode aired (early 1979).
I guess this is one of those all-too-common instances of real life rapidly overtaking science fiction in that a simple blood test today is usually more than sufficient to determine paternity (in some cases, I've read that even saliva is enough). I just thought it was funny; made me chuckle...

Anyway, carry on. :P
