Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America returns us back to a time when men were men and morals were morals. There was good and there was evil and nothing in between. The only thing that was missing from the movie was a white hat and horse, aside from that the movie pretty much nails everything from the authenticity of the time period to the wonderful science-fiction elements of the movie.

Chris Evans is perfectly casted in the role of Captain America. The FX were fantastic, allowing Chris Evans to be first portrayed as 100 pound weakling to the tall, buff, handsome and heroic Captain America. This is a great origins movie that outlines the beginnings of Steve Rogers and takes us on his journey to become the protector and guardian of the Red, White and Blue.

Joining him on his quest to serve his country during mankindís darkest hour, WWII, is Howard Stark, Tony Starkís dad aka Dominic Cooper; Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Chester Philips, Hayley Atwell as British Agent Peggy Carter, and Hugo Weaving as the notorious Red Skull in charge of the Nazi Division Hydra.

The movie deals with Steve Rogersí hardships as being a smaller person but he proves consistently that no matter what life throws at him, he has a big heart and is fearless. Making Steve Rogers an excellent candidate for the Super Soldier program. Heading up the program is Colonel Chester Philips who is unimpressed by the young man but allows him to be a volunteer for the formula. Once transformed, Steve Rogers is not sent off to war but to raise money to support the cause.

Eventually, everyone sees his abilities and sees that he can do more than just sell bonds and raise morale on the front lines. Once he demonstrates his strength and courage under fire, he gets his wish to fight the Naziís head on. Meanwhile, another Super Soldier by the name of Johan Schmidt aka the Red Skull is plotting to take over the world by developing secret weapons that are far more advanced than anything that Howard Stark can conceive.

The movie is excellently thought out. A great plot, great writing and great action make this movie at times a nail-biter. On the edge of your seat adventure that is all packaged perfectly into 3D. The acting is great and the chemistry between Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell is sizzling hot! While the sets, and special effects do detract from the acting at times, it does not stop the movie one bit. Excellent props, music, scenery and costume designs make this movie leap off the screen and not just because it is in 3D.

I highly recommend this movie for everyone. 8 out of 10.

I'm afraid I'm going to Netflix this one; I'm a little burned out on Superhero movies. But a well-written review all the same. ;)
